ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍ ചോരയും നീരുമുള്ള കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെപ്പോലെയാണ്. അവ അതിന്റേതായ ഭാഷയില്‍ സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കുന്നു. തര്‍ക്കിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. ബാഹ്യസൗന്ദര്യമല്ല, ആന്തരികമായ ഉള്‍ക്കനത്തിലാണ് ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍ ജീവിക്കുന്നത്. കലാകാരന്‍ കലയിലൂടെ ശബ്ദിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയാണ്. കലാകാരന്‍ നീതിയുടെയും സത്യത്തിന്റെയും ഭാഗത്താണ് നില്‍ക്കേണ്ടത്. നിശബ്ദരാവുകയും സമരസപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നിടത്താണ് ഫാസിസം ആധിപത്യം സ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നത്. എന്റെ ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍ പലപ്പോഴും വസ്തുനിഷ്ഠമാണെന്നെനിക്കറിയാം. കാലത്തിന്റെ കൊടുംകാടുകളില്‍ അലഞ്ഞ് നടക്കുകയാണ് നമ്മുടെ കണ്ണും കാതും ചിന്തയും. ചിലതൊക്കെ യാത്രയില്‍ വഴിതടഞ്ഞ് നമുക്കുമുന്നില്‍ നിന്ന് ചില ചോദ്യങ്ങളുന്നയിക്കും. ചിലത് ഉറക്കം കെടുത്തും. ചിലത് കുത്തി മുറിവേല്‍പ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കും. അപ്പോള്‍ അവയ്ക്കുള്ള ഉത്തരം കണ്ടെത്താന്‍ ശ്രമിക്കും. അതാണെനിക്ക് എന്റെ ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍. കലയിലൂടെ, ആപേക്ഷികമെങ്കിലും സത്യത്തെ അന്വേഷിക്കുകയാണ്.
അടിസ്ഥാനപരമായി സമൂഹത്തില്‍നിന്ന് മാറി ഒരു ചിന്ത എനിക്കില്ല. പരിസരത്തുനടക്കുന്ന ഏതൊരു സംഭവവും എന്നെ സ്പര്‍ശിക്കാറുണ്ട്. ആധുനിക വാര്‍ത്താവിനിമയ സൗകര്യങ്ങളുള്ള ഇക്കാലത്ത് പരിസരമെന്നത് ലോകംതന്നെയാണ്. അനീതിയും അഴിമതിയും അസത്യപ്രസ്താവനകളും, മറ്റുപലരേയുംപോലെ എന്നെയും വല്ലാതെ അസ്വസ്ഥനാക്കാറുണ്ട്. ലോകത്ത് മറ്റെന്തെല്ലാം വിഷയങ്ങളുണ്ട്. എന്തിനാണ് ഇതുമാത്രം ചിന്തിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് നടക്കുന്നതെന്ന് ഞാന്‍ സ്വയം ചോദിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്; തീവ്രവാദം, സ്ത്രീപീഡനം, പലതരം തട്ടിപ്പുകള്‍, പ്രകൃതി ചൂഷണങ്ങള്‍ എന്തുകൊണ്ട് അതിലൊന്നിലും ആകുലപ്പെടാതെ, രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാരോടുമാത്രം രോഷംകൊള്ളുന്നുവെന്ന്. എന്റെ ചോദ്യങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ഞാന്‍ കണ്ടെത്തിയ ഉത്തരം, ഇതിന് മുഴുവന്‍ കാരണക്കാര്‍ വഴിപിഴച്ച രാഷ്ട്രീയ നേതാക്കളാണെന്നാണ്. അവര്‍ ഒന്ന് ശരിയായി നില്‍ക്കട്ടെ, സര്‍വപ്രശ്‌നങ്ങളും പരിഹരിക്കപ്പെടും. പ്രകൃതി ചൂഷണം ചെയ്യുന്നവരെ സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്നതും അഴിമതിക്കാരായ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരെ സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്നതും തീവ്രവാദികളെയും പീഡിപ്പിക്കുന്നവരെയും സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്നതും മൂല്യബോധമില്ലാത്ത രാഷ്ട്രീയനേതാക്കളാണ്. അഴിമതിയുടെയും അക്രമത്തിന്റെയും പ്രധാന സ്വിച്ച് രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാരന്റെ കൈകളിലാണ്.
On finishing school level education at Santhivila and Nemom, joined Thiruvananthapuram Sanskrit College and later the College of Fine Arts. Graduated in B.F.A. (Painting) in a first rank from the University of Kerala.
Began service in the State Institute of Encyclopaedic Publications, Department of Cultural Affairs, Kerala from 1986. At present, serves in the capacity of Section Head and Art Editor.
Worked as Art Director in more than 85 feature films which won both national and international awards and recognitions. (It includes a film in Hindi too).
Directed three films in Malayalam viz, “Gowrisankaram’ , ‘Banares’ and Kukkiliyar. Among documentaries, the one based on the artistic inclirnations of Sri Kanayi Kunhiraman (made for the Department of Public Relations, Government of Kerala) and another one on the Mural paintings of Kerala (made for the Department of Archaeology) stand out in prominence.
Served in the capacity of member of the Jury of the Kerala State Film Awards Committee in 2002 and 2011. Serves as Honorary Creative Editor of Kerala Malayam Mission Web Magazine.2014-15
Solo Painting Exhibitions : Thiruvananthapuram Gorky Bhavan – 1985 Thiruvananthapuram Museum Auditorium – 1987, 1990, 1996, 2000. Thiruvananthapuram Kanakakkunnu Nishagandhi Auditorium – 2005. Academy Art Gallery, Kozhikode – 2007 Swaralaya, Palakkad – 2009.
Participated in various Central – State Level group Art Exihibitions and National Artist camps.
The Paintings of Nemom pushparaj are kept in the private galleries of Thiruvananthapuram Museum Art Gallery, Kerala Lalitha kala Academy, Central Lalitha kala Academy MadrasRegional Centre .KTDC, ITDC and also in the private collections in Sweden, Holland and kerala.
The books entitled, ‘Kanayi Kunhiraman : Brihadakarangulude Shilpi (Kanayi Kunhiraman: Sculptor of Huge Edifices) and Raja Ravi Varma Art, Time, Life have been published by the State Institute of Languages, Kerala.
The book entitled, ‘Sookshma sathyathinte Mugdha Darsanam’ written by Sri. P. Gopakumar which focuses on the art of Nemom Pushparaj has been published in 2006 by Olive Books.
